BBQ with friends

Yesterday, we had a bunch of our friends over for a BBQ.  One of D's friends recently returned from deployment in Afghanistan, and so we celebrated his homecoming.  Unfortunately, he's leaving in 2 weeks to his base in Fort Polk, Louisiana.  All of us had great food (lots of meat!) and just enjoyed each others' company.  The boys played video games, just like the old days when they all lived together in college.

Afterwards, we all headed to the park to play Uno and enjoy the outdoors.  It was also Baby C's first time to the park, and although he's still small, we put him on the swings.  He loved it!

6 Month Appt and More Solids

Today was Baby C's 6 month wellness check.  He did so well, especially with the vaccinations.  His pediatrician was surprised at how fast he's growing.  For both height and head circumference, he's in the 90th percentile!  And for weight, he's in the 50th percentile.  I'm hoping that Baby C will be taller than both of his parents when he grows up.  The fact that he's in the 90th percentile gives me some hope.  :)  His pediatrician told me about the adult height prediction equation.  For boys, it's add 5 inches to mother's height, then add father's height and divide by 2.  For girls, it's subtract 5 inches from mother's height, then add father's height and divide by 2.  According to the equation, Baby C will be 5'7" as an adult.

He received 2 injections and an oral vaccine today.  He did so well and only cried for about 15 seconds.  He fell asleep while I ran errands after the appointment.  Then around 2:30 PM, Baby C started to cry uncontrollably.  Plus, he would flinch if I touched his thigh.  So I know that the vaccine was starting to cause some soreness.  This happened during his 4 month vaccines, too.  So I gave him Infant Acetaminophen, which helped right away.  I'm debating on whether to give him the acetaminophen right after his vaccine for his 9 month wellness check as a precaution.

As far as solids, Baby C is doing great.  Plus, I'm having fun making his baby food.  He tried avocado last week, and today, I took out the Magic Bullet and made sweet potato.  It's funny to watch him try something for the first time since he makes a funny face.  It makes me think that he doesn't like it, but he opens his mouth for more.  I can't wait to try more foods.

Happy 6 months to Baby C!

I can't believe it's been 6 months since I gave birth to Baby C.  I still remember when my water broke, and I was wheeled into the OR for the C-section.  All those memories are still vivid to me.  Hearing his cry for the first time.  Then feeling jealous because hubby got to see and hold him first, while the surgeons were sewing me up. Then thinking that Baby C was so beautiful....He still is.

At 6 months, he is smiling more often...even to strangers.  He's also rolling over from back to front.  He can't roll from front to back yet.  So once he rolls over, he's stuck on his tummy.  After he gets tired of being on his tummy, he starts to cry.  We've only fed him rice cereal, but I'm planning to buy some avocados, bananas and sweet potatoes this weekend.  He's doing better at opening his mouth when the spoon reaches his mouth.  We're even feeding him water with a spoon.  Baby C can also stand for long periods while holding onto our coffee table.  Of course, I place my arms around him just in case he falls.

Nothing big planned for this long weekend, except a BBQ.  We actually have many BBQs planned for the month of July.  That means lots of meat.  Hubby's favorite.   Well, I hope you all have a nice, long holiday weekend.

P.S.  Baby C has eczema, and therefore, we need to keep his skin moisturized often.  We apply Calendula Cream to his face several times a day, and California Baby Super Sensitive Everyday Lotion to his body daily.  It has helped a lot.  Somehow, other lotions we've tried caused it to break out even more.
